One of the greatest benefits of synthetic wigs is the fact they require very little maintenance and do not have to be restyled after every wash. Also, synthetic wigs don’t react to bad weather like human hair, making them the perfect solution for humid or rainy days. It is still impotant to know how to care for synthetic wigs, which products to use and say “goodbye” to bad hair days!
Synthetic hair has different properties than real hair which means they require special care products. To keep your synthetic wig looking beautiful and to extend the life of the fiber, we recommend the use of special shampoos, conditioners and styling products specifically formulated for synthetic hair. There are basically two kinds of wigs. Human and synthetic.
Human hair pieces can be washed, combed, and styled just like we do with our own hair, wigs, beards, mustaches and hair pieces. All references to wigs also refers to beards, mustaches and hair pieces but we are focusing on hair pieces in this instance. Here are some tips to keep them looking good:
Have a set of proper accessories such as wig brush, wig comb, wig shampoo and conditioner, wig stand, wig hair spray and other accessories meant for styling.
Do not brush your wig with a regular comb or hair brush. Use the proper accessories.
Before putting on wig, make sure your own hair is clean and dry. Alternatively, you can wear a wig cap. Therefore, the wig will always be clean and requires less washing.
Do not trim or cut your wig by yourself if you are not good at it. A help from wig salon or expert is the best.
If you are doing activities like cooking or barbecuing, please do not stand too near, because the heat can damage your wig.
Wash your wigs every two weeks if you wear it daily for about ten hours. However, the frequency of washing also depends on other factors like the styling products, the environment and the weather. Please be alert when your wigs really need to be cleaned.
Never use hot water for washing your wigs, use cool water instead.
Use shampoo or hair cleanser specially dedicated for wigs.
If there is makeup build-up at any part of your wigs, it can be removed by using old toothbrush and hand soap.
Never brush your wig while it is wet and never use hairdryer, let it dry naturally.
Long Straight Wigs: Use oil sheen hair spray for straight wigs that need to be combed out. Take a piece of the wig hair about 2-3 inches from the bottom edge of the hair. Hold tight and comb downwards, away from your hand to the end of the wig. Repeat this by moving another 2-3" inches higher each time until you have reached the wig cap.
This needs to be done for all of the hair strands. To prevent the hair from pulling out of the wig cap, hold the hair that is being combed tight between your fingers. If styling is necessary, use sponge rollers. Take a flat section of hair about 1/2" wide, spray with oil sheen spray and wrap onto a roller. It does not need to be excessively tight. Make sure you are curling the hair into the direction you would like it to be when you are done. Let it dry overnight. Style lightly with a wide comb or brush.
With all these tips, I hope you would be able to take care your wigs in a better way
