CBN Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido
Sanusi Friday said the security challenges of the nation cannot be
treated in isolation without tackling the economic problems which has
left many poor.
Speaking at the flag off of the Financial Inclusion Strategy Pilot
Implementation in Maiduguri, the CBN governor said the present security
challenges faced by the country could be traced to the economic
problems.
He said trying to solve one without the other is an effort in futility
and everyone need to bring all the resources available to tackle the
problem of insecurity pervading the country.
According to him, Nigeria cannot afford to be so obsessed with the
security situation of Borno to think that the only solution is to flee
the state or limit strategies to solving the challenges only without
tackling what perhaps caused it in the first.
He noted that thinking that security challenges is in isolation and can
be tackled in isolation is like entering a vicious cycle that we do no
one any good.
The governor of the apex bank who identified poverty and unemployment
as the root cause of the Boko Haram crisis, said for the nation to have
security there must be viable economy.
"There cannot be security without viable economy, security depends on a
viable economy and we cannot fixed the present insecurity in the state
without fixing the economy or putting the economy in the right shape."
